The Spring Hunt.

What Game was Taken by the Sportsmen's Club and Who Did It?

A brighter day never dawned than the one appointed for the spring hunt of the Omaha Sportsman's Club in this current year. Yesterday was all that could be desired and it was improved to the utmost. At the early dawn the hunters were at their posts they having gone to the favorite hunting grounds the previous day.

Capt. John Withnell hunted near Bartlett and met with a mishap in a slight mistake. Seeing what he took to be wild geese be blazed away at them and was made aware of his error when the owner came and wanted pay for his domestic fowls. Capt. Withnell did not bring in this portion of his game and it is said that his neglect to do so cost him the victory on the count.

The hunting grounds selected by each were those that have been favorites on other hunts. D.C. Sutphen, Major Barriger, Yankee Hathway, J. Van Orman, William A.S. Heughs and A.D. McAusland, went to Papillion. Dr. Coffman, Wm. Preston and E.B. Chandler, went to Elkhorn; Mr. B.E.B. Kennedy, to Mosquito creek; John Petty, Revis and Budd, hunted at Tekama bottom; J.D. Jones, at Missouri Valley; Henry Homan, John and R.N. Withnell, went to Bartlett.

Winners and Losers.

It was arranged that the success or defeat of only the two captins should depend upon the count of the sides; that all others should win or lose according as each made a larger or smaller count than his competitor. For instance, the first man in Capt. Withnell's side was pitted against the first man in Capt. Jones' and go on through the two lists.

The following table shows what game each man killed and for what it was counted.

Capt. John D. Jones' Side.
John D. Jones.
